A good solution is to make your own “homemade” hand sanitizing gel and therefore never run out of antiseptic. Keep in mind though that homemade antiseptic is an emergency solution and in no way replaces the basic hygiene rules against the transmission of viruses and germs.

Homemade Hand Sanitizer Recipe
For execution, the WHO recommends that the materials be clean so that the final preparation does not become contaminated. The mixture should be “sat” for 72 hours until use. This way the antiseptic will have the time it takes to kill any bacteria that may appear during manufacturing.
Dosage: 3 to 1, i.e. 3 doses of alcohol and 1 dose of aloe vera, a few drops of essential oils.
Ingredients
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Aloe Vera Gel
- Essential Oils
- Refillable containers for travel
- Refillable containers with pump
TIP. For a hand sanitizer to be effective it must contain at least 60% to 70% alcohol. Over 70%, the alcohol evaporates easily from the skin and can cause irritation!
How to Prepare
Here’s a 1-minute video from Nebraska Medical Center showing how to actually do it. Remember to let the mixture ”sit” for about 72 hours before using in order to kill any bacteria might appear during preparation.
- So the most important part of the process to make your own hand sanitizing gel is the alcohol content, where only with an alcohol meter you can be sure of the rate of alcohol concentration in the finished product. If, for example, your final hand sanitizer gel has a 40% alcohol content (that’s why you don’t use whiskey or vodka that you might have at home) then it’s dangerous, as the impression that it protects you from viruses is false.
- Aloe Vera gel is necessary for moisturizing the skin, because alcohol dries it, causing cracks, sores, and bleeding.
- Use essential oils (as long as you don’t have an allergy) with antibacterial properties (eucalyptus, tea tree, peppermint) and to flavor your antiseptic gel.

TIP. An antiseptic spray is an important tool for cleaning surfaces at home, so we keep viruses away from furniture, benches, tables or from supermarket packaging!
Keep in Mind
- The WHO has given official instructions for the manufacture of hand-made antiseptic hands for purely medical reasons, which is not intended for general use.
- The construction of the “homemade” hand sanitizer gel is done at your own risk for the end result and you must be very careful.
- In any case, make sure you follow the instructions of the experts.
- If the proportion of ingredients of the antiseptic “homemade” is not correct and the alcohol content does not exceed 60% then it will not be effective.
- You know that viruses are usually transferred to our hands by touching a surface and then by touching hands with the face, mouth, or nose in our body. It is important, then, that we can keep our hands clean at all times.
