1 mug or glass large enough to hold about 8 oz water
1 Small knife to peel & slice ginger and cut the lemon
1 grater (optional) if you prefer grated ginger to sliced
1 teaspoon for optional honey or sweetener
- 1 cup (8 oz) | water | either hot (but not boiling) or cold
- 1 large lemon organic if possible juiced + 2 slices for garnish
- 1 inch knob fresh ginger peeled and thinly sliced or grated
- ½ tsp raw honey or stevia optional for taste
Prepare your ginger and lemon: peel ginger, slice or grate; cut lemon in half, juice, reserve slices for garnish.
Add sliced or grated ginger to your mug or glass.
Pour hot (not boiling) or cold water over the ginger. Let it steep for 3-5 minutes (steeping lets flavors release).
Squeeze in the fresh lemon juice.
Stir. Garnish with lemon slices. Enjoy immediately.
-
Use fresh ginger rather than powdered if you can — flavor and some active compounds are stronger.
-
If water is too hot, it can kill some beneficial compounds in ginger or lemon; let it cool a little.
-
Adjust strength: more ginger = stronger taste and more pungent heat; less = milder.
-
If you dislike raw lemon’s sharpness, reduce juice or add a bit of sweetener.
-
Rinse your mouth with plain water after drinking if you’re sensitive to acidity (protect tooth enamel).
