Ice Grows Like Hair From Wood #naturelovers
Feb 20, 2026
When temperatures sit just below 0°C and humidity stays high, the fungus Exidiopsis effusa pushes water out of rotting hardwood.
The water freezes on contact and forms thin ice strands that look like white hair.
Each strand can measure up to 10 cm long and 0.01 mm thick.
